The number that catches people is 30 hours on Creator. That sounds generous until you record a weekly podcast. A 90-minute recording session, re-uploaded once because you fixed the audio, is three hours gone. Ten sessions a month and you're at the ceiling with no edits left.

CapCut Pricing
CapCut Desktop is free to download, and the free tier is genuinely usable: auto-captions, timeline editing, 1080p export, no watermark.
CapCut Pro is $19.99/month or $179.99/year. Pro adds 4K export, the full AI toolkit (including silence removal and filler word removal), and 1TB of cloud storage.
CapCut's text-based editing is real but partial. You get a transcript, you can delete from it, and the timeline follows. What you don't get is the transcript as the primary interface — it's a panel bolted onto a timeline editor, and you feel that every time you switch between them.

DaVinci Resolve Pricing
DaVinci Resolve is free. The free version is a full professional NLE with no watermark, no export limit, and no time cap.
DaVinci Resolve Studio is $295 as a one-time purchase. Resolve 20 added IntelliScript, which matches your recorded footage against a written script and assembles a rough cut from it, plus transcript-based editing in the edit page.
For anyone doing 30+ hours a month, $295 once is the cheapest text-based editing on this list by a wide margin. It breaks even against Descript Creator in ten months.

Riverside Pricing
Riverside prices at roughly $15/month on the standard tier and $24.99/month on the higher one, with recording hours and AI features metered by plan.
Riverside's text-based editor is designed around content it recorded. If you're recording remote interviews inside Riverside, the transcript editor is right there and it works well. If you're importing footage shot elsewhere, you're paying for a recording studio to use its editor.

VEED is browser-based, which is its main advantage and its main constraint. Nothing to install, works on a Chromebook, and every minute of footage has to upload before you can touch it. A 4K talking-head recording is a long wait before the first edit.
BlitzCut Pricing
BlitzCut is $6.99/week, $16.99/month, or $69.99/year, with a 3-day free trial. There is also a $129.99 lifetime purchase, which is the only non-subscription option on this list apart from Resolve Studio. One subscription covers Mac, iPhone, and iPad.
There is no transcription hour limit, and the reason is structural rather than generous: transcription and silence removal run on your Mac. Nothing uploads. There's no server-side cost to meter, so there's no meter.
That also means the price doesn't change based on how much you record. A creator publishing four videos a month and a creator publishing forty pay the same $16.99.
The honest limitation: BlitzCut does one job. Talking-head video — import, cut silence, edit the transcript, caption, export. No color grading, no multicam, no motion graphics. If you need those, this is the wrong tool and Resolve is probably the right one.

Descript Creator costs about four times what BlitzCut's annual plan does over three years, and nearly seven times the lifetime purchase.
