Free Shot List Template and Builder

This shot list template turns your filming plan into an editable list of actions, framing, dialogue, props, and takes you can download as CSV.

No account, AI model, or submission of your entries to a server. Use the example, start blank, or restore your own JSON draft.

Build your shot list template

Start from the example or a blank list. Your entries stay in this browser; saving is optional and never automatic.

CSV works in spreadsheet apps. JSON preserves the draft for restoring here, including unfinished rows. New edits clear the prepared download.

Formula-looking CSV entries are prefixed as text. Spreadsheet behavior can vary, especially after re-saving a file. Keep a JSON backup for exact original text.

Restore a JSON backup

Only the expected text fields and supported draft version are read. You will confirm before replacing your current list.

How to use this shot list template

  1. Name the project and list the visible action each shot must show.
  2. Choose framing, note dialogue or sound, and add the location and props needed.
  3. Give each shot a stable ID. Reorder for filming convenience without losing those references.
  4. Mark essential coverage and update the status and selected take as you record.
  5. Download CSV for a spreadsheet or JSON for restoring the editable draft here.

A shot list describes the footage needed for the edit, while a script records the words and a storyboard sketches the composition. TechSmith's shot-list guide distinguishes these planning documents. Keep fields that help your shoot; a solo product demo rarely needs the paperwork of a large production.

Keep a backup of the plan you need

Saving on this device uses browser storage only after you choose Save draft. As MDN explains, local storage is specific to the browser origin and can be unavailable or cleared, including in private browsing. A downloaded JSON draft is a separate backup, not a cloud sync.

The CSV exporter quotes fields and prefixes formula-looking text. OWASP documents why spreadsheet interpretation can vary, particularly after re-saving. Review unfamiliar spreadsheet text, and keep JSON when you need the original wording exactly.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a blank file or an interactive template?

Both are available. Use this builder to edit and reorder a list, then download CSV. If you want an empty spreadsheet immediately, use the linked blank CSV template instead.

Is my plan saved automatically?

No. The current list lives in the page until you save a draft on this device or download a backup. Local saving is optional and specific to this browser and site. Private browsing, clearing site data, or storage restrictions can remove or prevent it.

Can I restore a downloaded draft?

Yes. Open the JSON backup as text, paste it into Restore a JSON backup, check it, and confirm replacement. CSV is intended for spreadsheet use; this builder does not import edited CSV files.

Does the total duration predict my final video length?

No. It sums the target screen time you supplied for individual shots. Missing durations are counted separately. Overlapping visuals, narration, transitions, and editorial choices can change the final runtime.

Is this an AI storyboard or camera controller?

No. It organizes your own shot descriptions. It does not generate images, judge coverage, record footage, or control a camera. Review the plan against the actual recording task.

Bring the recorded material into the edit

For a talking-head tutorial, founder explanation, UGC recording, or customer testimonial, BlitzCut helps shape the supplied footage with transcript editing, adjustable silence removal, captions, and a timeline for images and audio. Use the shot IDs and take notes to locate the footage you actually selected.
