Frequently asked questions
How do I extract audio from a video?
Choose the video file above. The tool reads the audio track in your browser and gives you a WAV file to download. Your video is never sent to a server.
Why is the output a WAV and not an MP3?
WAV is uncompressed and can be created without any extra software, which is why it works entirely in your browser. It's larger than an MP3, roughly 10 MB per minute of stereo audio. Most editors, DAWs, and transcription tools accept WAV. If you need an MP3, convert the WAV in any audio app.
Does extracting the audio change the quality?
The audio is decoded from the video's track and written as 16-bit PCM at the original sample rate. Because the source was already compressed, you won't get back detail that wasn't there, but the extraction itself adds no further compression.
Why did it fail on my file?
Either the video has no audio track, or your browser can't decode its audio format. Chrome and Safari handle most MP4, MOV, and WebM files. Very long files can also run out of memory, since the full decoded audio is held in the tab.
How do I extract audio on a Mac without a browser?
QuickTime Player can export an audio-only file. Open the video, then choose File, Export As, Audio Only.
Need a transcript or captions from that audio?
